Portrait is a visual massage. If a child from a portrait could speak, would probably say that it sometimes shows who I am, other times how I want you to see me, and another times is how the photographer represents me. Or usually it is a mixture of all three. No parent need to be told how quickly children grow and change or how good it is to have the changes recorded and saved from being forgotten.
